Turkey vol. 2

I don't know if someone's being very kind, but the past few days Blogspot has not been blocked in here. So I'm using this opportunity to make a new post. Legally :)

Anyway, things are great in here, soon we'll finish our first practice and going to another department. What we have learned the most in the department we are in now, is how to measure pulse, blood pressure, breathing rate and body temperature, because we do that about 8 times a day. But that's useful too :)

The hospital here is quite different from the one in Tartu, starting from the distribution of tasks and ending with performing minor nursing activities. For example, in Estonia, nurses do EKG and catheterize the patient, but in here, it's mainly the doctor's job. Also, some of the instruments of work are old (e.g blood pressure cuff), so sometimes it's difficult to work with them (I need a complete silence to hear the blood pressure, or maybe I just have a bad hearing :D)

In the hospital, the language barrier still exists, but with the help of body language, we are managing.

So, in general, I'm very glad, that in the end, Turkey turned out to be my chosen-one :)I've never been in a country with such culture and history and beauty and food and so on.

That's it for now. Bye!

Moika!

Time here flies soooo quickly...we have been already 2 months and only 1 more to be here :( Right now its feels like..i wish this time will last :) longer...at least few months...
The weather here is getting better and better (actually the better and the worse are changing quite every day). But we almost can feel the spring..and for us, Estonians, the spring is something that we really need.
Our practice is going also better and better every day. The biggest achivement is that, we are ABLE to speak FINNISH in our practice. Last week we didnt use English anymore at all. For us its a big step ahead. When at the beginning every day was hard as hell (we afraid to ge to hospidal every morning)..then now...we enjoy it..and its fun :)
We both ended already our radiotherapy practice- its amazing how joyful sick people can be. And after seeing same faces two weeks..we understood why they are so happy there..because of the workers. Its THE MOST friendliest place i have ever seen. Already in the first day we could work with patients and machines. In there we saw some new things that we never seen before and also brachytherapy treatments.
One day..8th of March-->Women day :) the biggest suprise for that day..we were listening the smart talk that one doctor was telling to students about treatment(cause it was a treatment thats quite rare...was there lots of people watching it)..and 10 minutes later..this doctor comes to us and says in pure estonian langugage "happy women day to you also"..he was ESTONIAN..so we were lucky and he translated this procedure that he made also for us ..so we could understand better :) It was such a good day :)
Now we are spending our time:
Margit-Angio
Irina-Natiivi x-ray
Every day brings new suprises and makes us wonder...how much more is possible??We have seen so unbelivable things. I was just watching mouth opened when they were trying to get angio stents through 2mm vessel...or how they made treatment for 1 DAY old baby..amazing.
This weekend we had "party weekend"..our families visited us and we were like real tourists, visited dolphinarium, planetarium, aquarium and other sightseengs...enjoyed kebab food and nice nature :)
Tomorrow is a moday..and new week...so we will see what happens then :)

Turkey, Adana

Merhaba!

First I must say that it took looong time before we hacked in here! (In Turkey this blog site is forbidden), but here we are and ready to post our first letter.
Adana-huge city with 3 million people living, sunshine, quite dirty, funny in its own way, religious but not too much, NO english speaking, full of people who are eating You with their eyes, Adana famous kebab, corba, banana milkshake, bazar-where you can buy the cheepest things(For example 3 kilo of grapefruits cost only 0,40 euro cents(8.-)etc. We have had soo much fun here because of the language barrier, but at the end it frustrates you that You only use two or three word to make yourself clear and they still dont get it!
Because of the beautiful weather and different food culture people should visit Turkey at least once in their lifetime! At first there will be many things You are suprised with, but You get used with them and dont notice them anymore- for example that the WC is not similar with the ones we are using at our homes, but You have a lovely hole in the middle of toiletroom and cup which you use to fullfill with water after your have finised your important things. The mosques, clothes, people friendliness and helpfulness is impressive, especially when You know that they dont earn that much and they have a big families.

But I think it is enough for now, we are going to take our first sun in the bushes(for them it is too early to go to beach and there is non close to us) and You wait for our next post about Hospital in here!!

(As You noticed we have corrected or tried to correct our mistakes and I apologize for fact mistake, population is about 3 million on Adana-Mersin Metropolitan area, in Adana it is ~1,6 million.)

Ola from Lisbon!

After flying to Oslo and then to Barcelona, we finally arrived Lisbon airport yesterday evening. Being quite exhausted it was really nice to have one of our tutors, Filipa, there with a sign where our names were written on. We took a taxi and all the way to our residents, we looked out of the car window to get our first lisbon experience. Palm trees- was definitely the first thing we remember.

We will start our practice on Monday, so these few days we have time to see the city, get used to the people and the maybe a bit with the local culture.
A few things that we already noticed today: People here , they run. Seriously, they just cant wait for the light to get green, they always run, when its red. they smoke, a lot. Maybe we noticed it, cause you cannot smoke in public in Estonia, but here you can, and they do.
But Portugal seems nice, well it was +16 today, so how can it not be nice, right!

Tampere vs Tartu- 10:3

Three weeks seems to be almost nothing, feels rather like three days to go. Should I start packing already?? Time passes quikly another friday, another party, time for relaxing and another week is over and new to come I live one day at time. This has been rather good week, thow. Learned a lot during my practical training, visited Ylinen centre, which is 25 km out of city and discovered, that in the middel of nowhere is always something. Finnish population is quite dispersed, but bus transport is good, expensive, but good. Anyways I had change to experience riding/ hipotherapy. It´s impossible not to be happy when your walking next to something so beautyful, calming and big. And most important we could ride on our on and one windy day was better again. After therapy session, Ville, 22 years old Finnish horse, recevied Mynthon pastilles. Times certainly have changed, horses used to like carrots and bread, nowadays they dream about mynthon.
I must say I am not Ice hockey virgin any more. In Finland you must visit ice hockey game at least once, here it is matter of life and death. Tampere has got to two teams, Ilves and Tappara, Ilves is young team and Tappara has got long history. So in Tampere people ask each other, which team do you support? Don´t underestimate this question, you might find a new friend or enemy instead.

Tampere Ilves vs Kuopio Kalpa then, it was rather insignificant game and a boring one as my companion said. Because I didn´t have any previous experiences its difficult to refute this statement. I liked it and would go another time again. Of course I hoped to see more finns go grazy and more emotions, but maybe next time. Although I started wonder what is going on in the heads of fanatic fans, who see their favorite team loosing, cause this time Tampere team lost, 1:3. Depression, fustration? Oh well...in the picture logo of Tampere Ilves.

Btw :I saw Anu Saagim in the cover of one magazine. Feels like home!

Heippa!!!

+2

Nice change, after two freezing weeks. You could really feel spring outside. So what´s new? It´s hiihtoloma or ski holiday in Tampere and because at the moment I am doing my practical training at the school for disabled children, it is also holiday for me too.Yei!
To honest I haven´t skied in Tampere, but I am planing to go skating today, and yesterday me and Henri( estonian guy) did small tour around Tamperes observation towers. We did´t had so much luck, one of them was closed and wheather wasn´t the best. Also we walked on lake and visited Tampere biggest museum, called Vapriiki. It is more like museum centre, because at the same time there are several exhibitions- Ice hockey history, Toys, Tamperes history, Shoe museum etc. Three floors full of exting exhibitions, we spent there nearly 4 hours. Worth visting for everyone.
*
Now I know why finns are so neurotic about their keys. I quess I haven´t mentioned that I have shared kitchen, I mean really shared it´s for two floors and last friday, when I was just planing to cook myself a dinner and was totally in my own thoughts and I managed to forget my key inside and of course door was automatically locked. No keys, no telephone, great, just stucked in the hall. Fortunately I did´have to wait long someone to came and I could ask for help. In finland, when somethings happens with your key- you loose it, forget inside- you have to call Security Centre and they send help. But it´s really expensive, even for finns. One of my finnish friend checks about 5 times if she gots her keys with her, before leaving home. And then the security guy just comes and opens the door and if you don´t have 25€ in cash, they will send you a bill, and you have to pay 45,51€. Finland is´t definitely not for absent-minded people. So now I am waiting for my bill and now you know, why I don´t have any big travelling plans for my free week.

But if you leave out these small things I am still happy to be here, sun is shining, people are great and soon skating!

Moikka!
